Smart meters offer numerous advantages that are of great benefit to both the energy and real estate sectors as well as end consumers
The digitalization of the energy transition is about to reach a decisive turning point: the new law from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK) provides clear impetus to massively drive forward the installation of smart meters. The aim is to equip 25% of households in Germany with smart meters by 2025 and as many as 95% by 2031. But what exactly are modern electricity measuring devices (e.g. smart meters), what advantages do they offer and how does ROCKETHOME support this development?
Smart metering systems: The heart of modern energy management systems
Intelligent metering systems (iMSys) are digital electricity meters that record and digitally evaluate energy consumption and feed-in in buildings in detail. In contrast to conventional analog or simple digital electricity meters, which only measure and display total electricity consumption, intelligent metering systems, such as smart meters, offer a deeper analysis of energy consumption and energy production. As a result, they form the basis for dynamic tariffs and HEMS. For households and real estate companies, they open up new ways to reduce energy costs and increase energy efficiency.
Smart metering systems and dynamic tariffs
From 2025, all electricity supply companies will be obliged to offer dynamic tariffs that allow electricity consumption to be shifted to more cost-effective periods. To be able to use dynamic tariffs, a smart meter is required: the digital meter records and transmits electricity consumption at short intervals. This means that time-variable electricity prices can be billed accurately and users have the option of adjusting their consumption to favorable price signals. You can find more information on dynamic tariffs here.
Smart metering systems and HEMS
Smart metering systems also provide the basis for digital home energy management systems (HEMS): smart meters provide the necessary real-time data on energy consumption and energy generation, for example from photovoltaic systems. The data fed into a HEMS by smart meters enables precise control and optimization of the entire energy budget. This overall system not only leads to greater energy efficiency, but also supports the sustainable operation of buildings. You can find more information about our HEMS here.
Advantages
The combination of smart electricity meters, dynamic tariffs and HEMS offers numerous advantages for real estate companies, energy suppliers and end consumers alike:
- Cost reduction through time-controlled consumption: Property owners and end customers can shift their electricity consumption to more favorable periods and thus reduce their energy costs.
- Precise analysis and ESG reporting: For companies, the data provides valuable insights for monitoring and ESG reporting in order to achieve sustainability goals.
- Increased energy self-sufficiency: Self-consumption optimization through HEMS enables the best possible use of self-generated energy, e.g. from solar systems.
- Contributing to the energy transition: Smart meters support the integration of renewable energies and contribute to better control and utilization of the electricity grids.
Our product range
If you do not yet have a metering system: from product to service - we offer customized solutions. From e-commerce solutions for your customers to 360-degree solutions for companies in the real estate and energy sectors.
The ROCKETHOME measuring systems
Energy Meter
The Energy Meter is specially designed to precisely measure the energy flows in buildings and systems - including photovoltaic and grid feed-in. This device forms the basis for effective energy management by providing a detailed visualization of all feed-ins and household consumption.
- three phase measurement
- Grid consumption, feed-in and household consumption
- Determine degree of self-sufficiency
Coming Soon: Optical Reader
We also offer the integration of optical readers, which can be easily installed on existing electricity meters and are used with modern measuring devices (mMe). It is simply placed on the meter and records the consumption data by optically reading the mechanical displays or LED signals of the meter. The optical reader allows the data from the mMe to be transferred to the cloud and billing can be carried out in parallel with the dynamic electricity tariff, because unlike smart meters, mMe cannot do this independently. At ROCKETHOME, we are constantly working on innovative solutions to make your properties digital and future-proof. Updates from ROCKETHOME production and much more can be found in our newsletter.
Conclusion: Using smart metering systems for energy efficiency and transition
Smart metering systems form the basis for a variety of innovative business models and are essential for meeting legal requirements in the energy management of buildings. The use and range of metering systems create a basis that offers the energy and real estate industry new opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce costs and develop sustainable business models. Not only can customized solutions be created in the B2C sector, but the ecological footprint of operating costs can also be reduced. With ROCKETHOME, you have a strong partner who not only provides you with the necessary tools for modern energy management, but also helps you to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the new legislation.
