Why we must now renew our commitment to climate protection, energy efficiency, and digitalization. Plea by Yüksel Sirmasac, founder and CEO of ROCKETHOME, at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Why we must renew our commitment to climate protection now
byYüksel Sirmasac, Founder & CEO, ROCKETHOME GmbH, on the occasion of the World Economic Forum in Davos
This year, we are once again facing a fundamental geopolitical and economic turning point that calls our collective actions into question:
Authoritarian regimes are once again strengthening traditional energy interests and securing their power through control over fossil resources, consumers, and value chains—Big Oil is back. Against the backdrop of the World Economic Forum in Davos, we as a society, economy, and technology industry must ask ourselves: Are we willing to accept this?
Over the past two decades, we in Europe have made enormous progress in transitioning to renewable energy sources and reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. We have transformed our energy systems towards sustainability, promoted the democratization of energy supply, and thus created new opportunities for prosperity and sovereignty. These advances are now under pressure: in some cases, they are to be slowed down, if not reversed, in the interests of a few geopolitical actors.
Personally, I have always looked at the world with hope since my youth, despite the many setbacks. The people around me—mentors, friends, colleagues—have always taught me that we can and must work toward a more just world. This hope is what drives me to invest in my education, pursue career paths, and ultimately even start a company, Rockethome . Hope for a just future is the strongest force in our societies.
Today, I see how this optimism is coming under pressure for many young people. What should our children learn when injustice, power politics, and the law of the strongest are once again placed above the common good? How do we explain to them that we should not continue to work on solutions that protect our climate, make our energy systems more productive, and make our society resilient?
We must resist this.
The path via climate protection, energy efficiency, and AI remains the answer to the central challenges of our time—and, incidentally, this also brings us sovereignty.
For us in the real estate industry, this means specifically:
• When modernizing existing buildings and constructing new ones, we consistently rely on renewable energies and decentralized solutions that offer both ecological and economic advantages.
• We are strengthening the use of digitalization and intelligent systems, which enable our economic system as sovereign operating systems. The ROCKETHOME Intelligence Platform uses artificial intelligence to control energy flows, optimize resources, and reduce CO₂ emissions.
• We are driving forward the integration of photovoltaic, tenant electricity, charging, and smart building systems —combined with an AI operating system that ultimately enables the use of renewable energies through sector coupling in the overall system.
Our commitment is clear: we stand for an economy based on transparency, participation, and responsibility. An economy in which climate protection is an integral part of economic decisions—not a nice-to-have option.
This is not just a technological or economic necessity—it is a social mandate. And this mandate begins now, today, with every project we implement, every decision we make, and every partner we gain.
We must renew our vision. Not just for ourselves, but for future generations.
I wish you a thoughtful and energetic start to the year 2026.
Best regards,
Yüksel Sirmasac
